As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the political landscape is once again heating up with speculation and strategizing. While Joe Biden remains the incumbent Democratic president, questions arise about whether another Democratic candidate could potentially have a better chance of defeating the likely Republican contender, Donald Trump. Analyzing the current political climate, party dynamics, and potential candidates provides insight into this crucial question.

The Current Political Climate

The United States remains deeply polarized, with Trump maintaining a strong and loyal base despite his controversial presidency and subsequent legal troubles. Biden, on the other hand, has faced challenges with approval ratings fluctuating amid economic concerns, the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and partisan gridlock in Congress. This environment creates a complex backdrop for any candidate vying for the presidency.

Potential Democratic Contenders

Kamala Harris

As Vice President, Kamala Harris is a natural successor if Biden decides not to run. Harris has a strong political resume, including her roles as U.S. Senator and California Attorney General. However, her approval ratings have been inconsistent, and she faces scrutiny over her handling of specific issues as Vice President. While she has the visibility and experience, her ability to galvanize a broad coalition of voters remains uncertain.

Pete Buttigieg

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emerged as a notable figure during the 2020 Democratic primaries. His articulate and measured approach, coupled with his military background and experience as the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, make him a compelling candidate. However, Buttigieg’s challenge lies in expanding his appeal beyond his core supporters to encompass a more diverse electorate.

Gavin Newsom

California Governor Gavin Newsom has gained national attention for his progressive policies and handling of the COVID-19 crisis. His leadership in one of the nation’s largest states provides him with a significant platform, but his liberal stance may alienate moderate and swing voters essential for a general election victory.

Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders continue to be influential voices within the Democratic Party, particularly among progressive voters. However, their age and far-left positions could be a hindrance in appealing to a broader, more centrist electorate necessary to secure a general election win against Trump.

Strategic Considerations

Appeal to Swing Voters

Winning the 2024 election will likely hinge on the candidates’ ability to attract swing voters in battleground states. While Biden managed to do this in 2020, any new Democratic contender would need to demonstrate the same capability. This involves not only policy positions but also the ability to connect with voters on a personal level and address their immediate concerns.

Unity within the Democratic Party

The Democratic Party must avoid a divisive primary battle that could weaken the eventual nominee. A candidate who can unite the party’s various factions—progressives, moderates, and independents—stands a better chance of presenting a formidable challenge to Trump. Ensuring party unity and a cohesive campaign strategy is crucial.

Trump’s Enduring Influence

Donald Trump’s influence over the Republican Party and his base’s unwavering loyalty make him a formidable opponent. His ability to dominate media narratives and galvanize supporters cannot be underestimated. Any Democratic candidate must be prepared to counter his rhetorical style and mobilize a strong voter turnout.

In Closing

While Joe Biden remains a significant contender against Donald Trump, other Democratic candidates like Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Gavin Newsom possess unique strengths that could make them viable alternatives. The key to defeating Trump lies in a candidate’s ability to appeal to swing voters, unify the Democratic Party, and effectively counter Trump’s influence. As the political landscape evolves, the Democratic Party must carefully consider its strategy and potential nominees to ensure the best chance of victory in 2024.

There are several reasons why some people believe Donald Trump should never be president again. It’s important to note that this answer reflects the opinions and concerns of some individuals and may not encompass all perspectives. Here are a few common arguments against Trump’s potential return to the presidency:

Divisiveness and Polarization: During his presidency, Donald Trump was known for his confrontational rhetoric, which often deepened divisions within the country. Many people argue that his leadership style was characterized by inflammatory language, personal attacks, and a lack of respect for political opponents. They believe that this kind of behavior is detrimental to national unity and hampers the ability to address pressing issues effectively.

Questionable Ethical Conduct: Trump’s presidency was marred by a number of ethical controversies. His refusal to fully divest from his business interests raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest. Additionally, his decision not to release his tax returns fueled suspicions about his financial dealings. Critics argue that these actions eroded trust in the office of the president and compromised the integrity of the government.

Handling of COVID-19 Pandemic: Trump faced significant criticism for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics argue that his administration downplayed the severity of the virus in its early stages, leading to delays in implementing effective public health measures. They also point to inconsistencies in messaging and clashes with health experts, which they believe hindered the pandemic response efforts.

Immigration Policies: Trump’s approach to immigration, particularly his hardline stance on border control and his efforts to implement travel bans targeting predominantly Muslim countries, sparked significant controversy. Critics argue that these policies were discriminatory and ran counter to American values of inclusivity and compassion.

Concerns about Democracy and Institutions: Some critics express concerns about the impact of Trump’s presidency on democratic norms and institutions. They argue that his repeated attacks on the media, judiciary, and intelligence agencies undermined public trust in these pillars of democracy. Additionally, controversies surrounding the 2020 election and Trump’s refusal to accept the results raised questions about his commitment to the peaceful transfer of power.

Public opinion is diverse, and political debates continue to shape the discourse around the topic.

There are many people who believe that the January 6th Insurrectionist convictions are not valid. These people believe that the convictions are just a way of bringing a spotlight onto the insurrectionists so that they can be punished. However, these people are wrong.

Jonathan Pollock

Jonathan Daniel Pollock, a man from Lakeland, Florida, has been charged with assaulting multiple police officers with a deadly weapon. He has been accused of a violent entry into the Capitol building and using a shield to attack three law enforcement officers.

Federal agents tracked Pollock while he was in California and Florida, and the fugitive is believed to have friends and family in several states. A reward of $15,000 was offered for the arrest of Pollock in March. This has since doubled. It is believed that the FBI has active surveillance on the Pollock family.

Pollock was part of a group of friends and family from Polk County. He also has a sister, who is in court awaiting trial.

The affidavit lists the suspects, including charges, where they are from, and their status. Some have ties to right-wing extremist groups.

Guy Wesley Reffitt

After a jury convicted Guy Wesley Reffitt of five crimes associated with his involvement in the January 6th Insurrectionist attack, he was sentenced to more than seven years in prison. His sentence is the longest yet imposed for any defendant involved in the Capitol riot.

According to the FBI, Mr Reffitt was part of a militia-style Three Percenters movement. These groups are named after a small percentage of the colonial US population that fought against the British in the War of Independence.

The jury found Reffitt guilty of five counts, including obstructing an official proceeding, carrying a firearm during a civil disturbance, and transporting a firearm during a civil disturbance. He was sentenced to serve at least three years of supervised release.

The charges against Mr Reffitt stem from his actions on January 6, 2021, when he went to the U.S. Capitol wearing body armor and a helmet, and armed with a semiautomatic handgun.

Michael Perkins

The list of insurrectionist convictions involving the Capitol riots in 2021 includes several Floridians. Among them, Jonathan Pollock stands out. He was a part of a group of rioters who slammed into the police line and then engaged in tug-of-war style conflict. During the attack, he also broke an officer’s grasp.

Another prominent rioter was Joshua Christopher Doolin. He was a member of the group that pushed through the Capitol Police. His family and friends were reportedly gathered around him when he was arrested.

In addition to Pollock, dozens of other rioters are in jail. Some are accused of participating in the insurrection, while others were arrested for their roles in destroying property or assaulting law enforcement officers.

One of the most serious charges is seditious conspiracy, which can carry a prison sentence of more than five years. Other charges involve violent entry into the Capitol grounds, disorderly conduct in a restricted building, and obstructing an official proceeding.

Olivia Pollock

Despite the fact that many rioters have been put behind bars, a number of Floridians are still at large, accused of participating in the deadly Capitol insurrection. Some of them have been linked to right-wing extremist groups. And the FBI is reportedly actively looking for them.

In a federal investigation, prosecutors have primarily relied on social media posts. But they are also seeking financial records and credit card information. Depending on the standard of evidence, agents can get court orders to review these records. Using a “trap and trace” device, agents can track all calls from a particular phone line.

A federal statute makes it illegal to cross state lines to avoid prosecution. The FBI was able to monitor Pollock’s movements while in California. It also tracked him when he was in Florida.

Poor Norman News, January 25, 2021, Washington DC

The impeachment managers from the United States House of Representatives have delivered articles of impeachment against Donald Trump for incitement and insurrection against the United States government.

This would make Donald Trump the first president in United States history to be impeached twice. The Senate failed to convict Donald Trump the first time he was impeached.

Certain Republican senators have expressed that they do not support the present impeachment because Trump is no longer in office. They state that the second impeachment would serve to divide the nation further.

However, other Republican senators have stated that they would support impeachment under the circumstances because of the severity of what Trump is alleged to have done, i.e., incitement of insurrection against the government.

Most legal scholars agree that impeachment even after the president has left office is legally constitutional, because he was impeached while still in office, and the impeachment would serve to disqualify Donald Trump from ever holding office in the United States.

A minority of legal scholars’ state that it is not constitutional to impeach Donald Trump because he is no longer in office.

It does appear there is precedent for impeachment of a person once they leave office on the basis that a person who is impeached could simply resign without having to face the consequences of their actions and could potentially hold office again.

Whatever the case, there have been only four presidential impeachments in United States history, and now Donald Trump holds half of those four.

It will now be up to the Senate to determine the trial rules, and the timing of the trial. The House of Representatives will be the prosecutors in the impeachment.

Poor Norman News, Washington DC January 20, 2021

With great fanfare, President elect Joe Biden and Vice President elect Kamila Harris were sworn in at the United States Capitol amongst a bipartisan group of dignitaries who were socially distanced.

Notably absent and in a breach of tradition, Donald Trump did not attend the inauguration, nor was the customary invitation to the White House given by Trump to incoming President Biden.

Donald Trump seemed to want to escape Washington DC as early as possible so that he could get a free flight on Air Force One one last time to his new home in Florida.

Vice President Pence along with his wife attended the inauguration as well as congressional leaders, ex-president’s including Barack Obama, William Jefferson Clinton, George Bush, and their respective wives. Retired congressional leaders also attended along with other dignitaries.

There was heavy security in the nation’s capital due to the fact that right wing white supremacist terrorists and insurgents attack the United States Capitol two weeks earlier with the intent of trying to overturn the United States election and democracy at the behest of Donald Trump.

The nation seemed to breathe a sigh of relief as normalcy seemed to return back to the government with Biden’s inauguration.

Lady Gaga saying the Star-Spangled Banner, Jennifer Lopez saying America the beautiful, and Garth Brooks saying amazing Grace. They all gave great performances.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and the security situation in the United States Capitol, rather than having people fill the area in front of the capital and the reflecting pond, which is ordinarily the custom during presidential inauguration’s, instead 200,000 Star-Spangled Banner flags were planted to symbolize people.

President Biden comes into office with an unprecedented number of serious problems to resolve after the tumultuous and disastrous Trump presidency. There is a Covid 19 pandemic, a once in 100-year deadly viral outbreak that has killed over 410,000 people as of Biden’s inauguration. Further, millions are out of work, and hundreds of thousands of businesses have gone under due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Most experts agree that Donald Trump’s utter failure to provide competent leadership on the coronavirus pandemic situation was the cause for the massive economic downturn related to the failure.

Biden also has to deal with the diminution of the United States on the world stage, global warming, a crumbling infrastructure, and many other problems that were not dealt with under Donald Trump.

Both Democrats and Republicans seemed to breathe a sigh of relief as Joe Biden was sworn in.

Joe Biden said, “now it’s time to get to work.”

I watched with disgust over the last four years as Donald Trump and right-wing media sowed hatred and demonized the half of America that identify as liberal and/or Democrats. Never before have I heard an American president calling their political rivals radical, communist, socialist, etc.

Frankly, this same type of brainwashing of one group or members of a country against another was done by the Nazis in World War II against their perceived political rivals. We know what happened in that situation, 6 million Jews were murdered, Gypsies were murdered, political rivals were murdered only God knows how many people were murdered due to the brainwashing divisive and demonization that was done by the Nazi propaganda machine.

The same thing is going on here in the United States through right wing media. Anytime a news organization that is not really a news organization but a political entertainment machine, spews constant seven day a week 24 hour a day mistruths and disinformation, people will eventually start to believe the lies that they are mean told.

Over the past four years the president instead of representing all of the United States people, pandered to his so-called base with constant divisive and hate filled propaganda to the extent that by the time the election came, his supporters honestly believed that the country would go under if the Democrats took the presidency. Imagine that these people have been brainwashed to such an extent that they do not believe the Democrats can run the country without destroying it.

Never mind the fact that Bill Clinton ran the country for eight years just fine, or Barack Obama ran the country for eight years just fine, Donald Trump and the right-wing propaganda machine convinced these people that the Democrats are so bad that they would destroy the nation.

There are educated people on the right that came to believe the propaganda message. The end result was that some of these zealots have become domestic terrorists and attacked their own United States Capitol building and the United States Congress itself with the aim of reversing a democratic election and thus ruining United States Representative democracy.

I will say it again, these people have been brainwashed to such an extent that they would destroy the United States to keep a man like Donald Trump in office. We have a major problem here in this nation.

Now I am all for free speech, but maybe it is time for return to the fairness doctrine for media outlets, and require media or so-called media, to give equal time to both sides or all sides, so that their watchers of the news hear all sides of the political argument.

One thing is certain, a blue-chip investigative panel needs to be put into place to confront the right-wing domestic terrorist that now in a threat our nation. It has been left alone for far too long. With Timothy McVeigh in the Oklahoma City bombing, with the attacks in Charlottesville, the Branch Davidians, Ruby Ridge, the right-wing extremist takeover of federal property in the north over grazing rights, the attack on the United States Capitol, armed militias attempting to suppress state governments by parading around with weapons at government buildings, etc. it has gone too far.

If we do not do something now, we will lose our nation. The people that have become radicalized, are capable of horrible atrocities. They will not conform to the rules of war, they are out of their minds. Just like Al Qaeda and ISIS, United States right wing domestic terrorists are just as radical and probably even more dangerous.

We fought a civil war against the Confederates once, seeing the rebel Confederate flag at the attack on the US Capitol a couple of weeks ago and a domestic insurgent walking a Confederate flag through the capital, makes me think that we are still fighting the Confederates except this time they infect all 50 states.

We must find a solution before it is too late.

Poor Norman News, Washington DC, January 13, 2021

Outgoing President Donald Trump was impeached for a second time today by the United States House of Representatives, for inciting sedition related to the attack on the United States Capitol building.

History was made for two reasons, first Donald Trump is the only president in American history to be impeached twice during a four-year term or any term for that matter, and secondly this was the most bipartisan impeachment of a President in United States history.

Obviously, the fact that Donald Trump was impeached for sedition against the United States government makes him the only president to ever be impeached for sedition as well.

Now Nancy Pelosi must transmit the impeachment documents to the Senate. The Senate leader McConnell says that he will not call the Senate back in the session until after Joe Biden has been sworn in as the new president.

This effectively means that the trial in the Senate on the impeachment will not occur until after Donald Trump has transitioned out of office, and Joe Biden is the new president.

Many Republican House of representative members questioned why the Democrats would impeach Donald Trump if he has only one week to remain in office, although ten Republicans joined in the vote for impeachment.

The Democrats responded by saying this type of conduct cannot be tolerated under any circumstances, and they want to ensure that Donald Trump will never be able to hold office again on the grounds that he is a clear and present danger to the United States of America.

Only 16 Republican senators need to join in on the Senate impeachment for all Trump to be convicted on the impeachment. It Donald Trump is convicted in the Senate on the impeachment, a simple majority vote will that be done to confirm that Donald Trump will no longer be able to hold office.

President elect Joe Biden has stated that he will defer to the Congress to decide the matter, and that his main interest is in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic and bringing back the economy.

Watching the attack on the US Capitol by traitorous insurrectionists was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. I was in the United States Air Force for six years, I have seen some horrible stuff in my life, truly horrible stuff. I remember watching the World Trade Center being attacked in 2001 with my mom. I remember when the World Trade Center buildings collapse and thought to myself my God tens of thousands of people have probably died.

Watching enemies of the United States of America waving our Star-Spangled Banner, Confederate flags, and other white supremacist symbols while they attacked our government with the goal of destroying our government, yes destroying our government not just changing the results of the election, was the absolute worst.

Thoughts of Civil War and wanting to get revenge went through my head when I looked at these people. I thought of all the men and women who have died serving United States for freedom so that these traitors and insurrectionists could just take it away in a single afternoon?

Donald Trump was their cheerleader. Incitement is not protected speech. Incitement in a nutshell is trying to get people to do something by speech, that is illegal, with the intent that they do the illegal act.

Donald Trump telling his supporters to go to the capital and use force was textbook incitement. His incitement to insurrection was a total violation of his oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, which is no doubt a high crime and misdemeanor, which should subject him to at the minimum impeachment, and I believe criminal prosecution.

If Vice President Pence does not act to remove Trump through the 25th amendment of the Constitution, then the House must at the minimum impeach Donald Trump. Most likely there will not be a trial on the impeachment before Trump has to go on January 20, 2021 when Joe Biden takes office, but the trial must be done after that to ensure that Trump can never hold office again, loses his Secret Service protection, and loses the person benefits of the office that he shames.

We can never allow sedition and insurrection to happen like this in our nation again.

This week we have been watching history. The brainwashed Trump supporters that we have been interacting with over the last few years were not happy with the results of the election in 2020, and at the behest of their dear leader Donald Trump, they stormed the United States Capitol that was in session with the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, attempting to place their dear leader as President even though he lost the election.

At the time we called this a bloodless coup d’état or insurrection, but in fact blood was spilled.

As United States Air Force veteran who used to salute the Star-Spangled Banner every day, and who has sworn an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution twice in my life the last time being in 1997 up to the present, I was appalled. I am sure most Americans who observed what was going on were also appalled.

Since the attempted coup d’état and insurrection of Trump supporters, I have been watching the news constantly as are many of you as well.

I am not a psychiatrist nor am I some kind of left-wing radical, I am a middle road of the road type a guy, and it is not hard to see that Trump supporters and many on the right have become radicalized by constant seven day a week 24-hour right-wing propaganda of the type that Goebbels used when he served Adolf Hitler, to radicalize the Germans to start World War II, and to murder 6 million Jews.

In essence not only have many Republicans and Trump supporters become radicalized, but they are brainwashed into a Trump cult. They being the victims of constant propaganda which spews hate and demonization against Democrats and so-called liberals, like drug addicts have no clue that they are in what amounts to a death cult. They do not know they are brainwashed. The parrot the crap they have been fed.

You can see the difference between the way Donald Trump was campaigning, and the way Joe Biden was campaigning. Donald Trump talked about the radical left and how the country would not survive if the Democrats were elected, and that the Democrats were radical, and that the Democrats were communist and socialist, and that there is no way the economy would do good under the Democrats.

Whereas Joe Biden talked about bringing the nation together and representing all Americans.

The hateful and divisive rhetoric not only from Donald Trump, but from his supporters and political party, the Republicans, have never in our history been so insidious and hateful.

For the eight years before Pres. Trump was elected, Barack Obama ran the country just fine and saved it from economic calamity and brought the nation back. If you listened to the rhetoric from Donald Trump and the Republicans, Barack Obama destroyed the nation which in fact was not only not the case, but it was a boldface lie. This is called disinformation.

When you have a political party that is so hell-bent on gaining power or staying in power that they will say and do anything, we are in big trouble. There are feebleminded people amongst us who will believe the false narrative and take action which was seen during the insurrection this week.

What is the scary part of the insurrectionists at the capital were people from all walks of life including lawyers, firefighters, retired military personnel, etc. being a part of it. In other words, not all of the brainwashed insurrectionists that tried to take down our country were feebleminded, some of them were smart enough to know better.

The people that attacked our capital and our Congress with the intent to overturn the election and therefore our constitutional government, because they did not like the results, are enemies of our nation and our people. They are the enemy within. These are not ordinary people; these are people who are brainwashed and not in their right mind. These are people who have been listening and watching compartmentalized brainwashing propaganda and disinformation from right wing media sources, and these people for the most part do not get news or information from any other sources.

After a while someone who nonstop listens to disinformation and propaganda begin to believe the bull crap that they are being fed which is exactly what is happened to the Republican Party of today.

I am hopeful that the people that are brainwashed by right wing disinformation are too lazy to actually really start a civil war. The fact is we Americans all have more in common than not. You know there is something seriously wrong though with people who know hundreds of thousands of people have died from a coronavirus pandemic but yet they will still walk around without a mask acting like nothing is wrong simply because Donald Trump told them so.

The mob that descended upon Washington was a wake-up call for us all. A motivated force could have easily gotten into the capital and taken out one branch of our government.

If you do not know you should know based upon the insurrection that took place last week, our representative democracy is hanging by a thread. There is a percentage of the population that does not want to abide by the results of election because they lost the election. They are willing to tear down our government because they lost. Democracy requires cooperation from everyone. If your party does not win, you vote when the next election comes along and maybe you will win, maybe you will not.

I like you want those who attacked the United States Capitol to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I want Donald Trump removed from office now. I want Donald Trump prosecuted for inciting an insurrection along with Rudolph Giuliani, Donald Trump’s sons, and any other party who incited the insurrection.

I want a quick reaction force to be stationed in Washington DC to prevent what happened at the US Capitol building from ever happening again.

I love the United States of America, but there are people that love Donald Trump out there more than they do their own nation. It is time now for we as Americans to call out the constant right-wing propaganda that is creating these monsters that attacked the United States Capitol. It is time for United States businesses who love capitalism, to shut down advertising for media that promotes right wing extremism. As they can see, if allowed to go unchecked, they will soon lose their nation as well.

I am a free-speech guy, but not when that speech incites insurrection against the United States government, that speech should not be protected.

Poor Norman News-January 8, 2021, Washington DC

Speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi has indicated that the House of Representatives will most likely initiate a second impeachment against Donald Trump for inciting insurrection against United States government, when he urged his followers to go to the United States Capitol building and use force to overturn the election.

The majority of Americans are shocked at what unfolded when the United States Capitol building was attacked by traitorous seditious minded Trump supporters attempting to interfere with the United States government certification of a lawful election. Both Democratic and Republican leaders have expressed outrage.

Both Democratic and Republican leaders have expressed deep concern about what Trump may be capable of in his last couple of weeks in office.

Some members of Trump’s cabinet have met to discuss invoking the 25th amendment to the Constitution which in part states that if a majority of cabinet members and the vice president agree that the president can no longer discharge their function as president, that they can present those findings to the Congress who can then after a vote remove the president from office.

It is said that Vice President Pence is against invoking the 25th Amendment.

National leaders both past and present feel that it is important to remove Trump from office to ensure the national security of the nation, and to ensure that he does not do any more damage to the nation.

Trump has for months brainwashed his followers into believing that there was no way he could lose the 2020 election unless there was rampant fraud. Once he lost the election, he claimed that he lost by fraud, and the constant brainwashing type of propaganda to his followers, have caused tens of millions of Americans to believe that the election was stolen even though there is absolutely no evidence to show wrongdoing in the election, and Trump has loss approximately 62 court cases including two Supreme Court cases.

The United States of America is in an unprecedented situation at the present time. We will report more as facts come out.
